Keep discussion relevant to 4X Games, Companies, and Developers.The hero building isn't nearly as fleshed out as in AoW/HoMM but the other aspects more than make up for it.A subreddit for discussing 4X strategy games. If something a little closer to Civilization would be interesting, look into Endless Legend - it's basically a cross between AoW and Civ, and is a great game with super varied factions.The city management isn't quite as good as in HoMM3, but the added complexity in how you build your heroes and the fact that heroes take an active part on the battlefield makes it a ton of fun to come up with unique hero builds. I know that's a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I feel that in general HoMM4 is just more fleshed out and has more interesting mechanics, and in that sense it's a bit closer to Age of Wonders even though the actual mechanics are quite different.
